A Short History of EMDR Cambodia
EMDR Cambodia was registered as an association and non-governmental organization by the Ministry of Interior on November 10, 2023. It is not profit-oriented reporting to the Ministry of the Interior.
EMDR Cambodia’s staff follows a Code of Ethics based on Ethics of the American Psychologist Association (APA). The Code not only makes sure a proper treatment of all our clients as well as of our staff, but also to leave no-one behind. People with disabilities and of all genders are treated in the same, professional way. We guarantee personal integrity in all our activities.
OUR TEAM STRUCTURE
The EMDR Cambodia team
EMDR Cambodia consists of 29 highly motivated employees from several fields. The organization has three offices in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Battambang.
2014-2016
- First wave of EMDR therapists certified.
- Awareness-raising campaigns started in rural provinces.
2017-2019
- Collaborative research published in global journals.
- Training programs extended to paraprofessionals and NGOs.
2020-2022
- Increased demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Shift to remote awareness efforts and broader community outreach.
2023
- EMDR Statutes renewed.
- EMDR Cambodia legally registered as an NGO by the Ministry of Interior (Nov 10, 2023).
2024-2025
- Temporary expansion to Tboung Khmum with a new office (closed early 2025 due to end of USAID funding).
- Ongoing expansion of training, research, and partnerships.
OUR HISTORY
Part of the national campaign on mental health
EMDR Cambodia is part of the national campaign on mental health. It had been launched by the Cambodian Ministry for Health and is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the Johanniter International Assistance. We are very grateful for this fruitful long-term collaboration for the sake of people in Cambodia. We also highly appreciate the collaboration with all our partners in Camboda and abroad.
