Making Mental Health Information Accessible to Everyone
With the approval of the Ministry of Health, EMDR Cambodia distributed mental health information materials to local health centres and referral hospitals in June 2026.
In Cambodia, mental health issues remain highly stigmatized. Many people do not seek help when they, their family members, or friends experience mental health problems. Others lack access to support services or may not recognize the signs and symptoms of mental illness.
To address these challenges, EMDR Cambodia distributed information, education and communication (IEC) materials across the five provinces of Battambang, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Takeo and Phnom Penh, where the organization operated under the IMARP project (Improving Mental Health for Affected and Vulnerable Population Groups).
Mental Health Information for Everyone
Following the completion of the IMARP project, the materials were provided to 16 health centres and five referral hospitals. They include posters, leaflets, flip charts and other educational resources. By making mental health information more visible and accessible, these materials help communities recognize signs of mental illness, learn coping strategies and know where to seek support. In doing so, they contribute to greater awareness, resilience and well-being.
IMARP was a 42-month initiative funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through Johanniter International Assistance. The project aimed to establish a community-based mental health support system in Cambodia and was completed in May 2026.
These printed IEC materials promote mental health awareness, resilience, self-management, and support-seeking among individuals, families, and communities.
